Deep Cleaning, Kitchen Space, Home, Year 2025

Deep cleaning is an essential and vital part of a home, more so when approaching a brand new year. Here are 4 of the most important methods that guarantee an effective deep clean session.

Deep Cleaning 1: Thoroughly Cleaning All Appliances

When it comes to deep cleaning your kitchen before 2025, one of the most important action is cleaning all your appliances. One area you can start with is the refrigerator. Take out everything inside it and clean it with warm and soapy water. Take out all the shelves and drawers and wash them separately, making sure that there is no residue of spills or pieces of food that have dried up anywhere in the corners.

Clean all the handles as well as the door seals of the refrigerator from the outside with a mild cleaner or vinegar solution as this keeps it running efficiently. Now, proceed to clean the oven. Regardless if you have a self-cleaning oven, deep cleaning in these places is necessary periodically to maintain hygiene at all times.

Clean the inside of the oven using a nontoxic oven cleaner or by making a paste with baking soda and water. Give particular attention to solidified grease and food residue. Don’t forget the oven racks-skim off grime and grunge with hot soapy water. Place a bowl of water with some vinegar in it inside the microwave and heat for a few minutes as this is a great way to loosen grime. Later, take a cloth and wipe the interior, the turntable and those nooks that are hard to reach in it.

As for your stovetop, remove the burners and knobs in order to clean around them. Clean the stove with an appropriate cleaner depending on the type — gas, electric  or induction. Scrub off any grease and spills. And don’t let the dishwasher get off scot-free — run a cycle of dishwasher cleaner or a cup of white vinegar to remove all built-up grime and odours.

Finally, give a quick clean to toaster or blender, just a simple wipe down outside and any removable parts washed. By following these steps, your kitchen appliances will be clean, in good working order and ready in style for the coming year.

Deep Cleaning 2: Going Through Items To Declutter And Reorganise

Deep Cleaning, Kitchen Space, Home, Year 2025

Decluttering and organising are just about the most important steps in deep cleaning your kitchen before 2025 begins. More often than not, the kitchen becomes a catch-all of things that do not have a place even those items used for cooking. This makes it hard to clean and just as hard to be functional.

You will now have more space for organisation which should be functional and visually appealing. Take everything off the countertops, drawers and cabinets. This allows you to assess what you actually use and need. Expired items, items that are no longer working properly and rarely used items must be discarded or donated. Now that the clutter is out of the way, it is time to organise what is left.

Start with the pantry — group like foods together such as grains, canned goods and snacks. Then, organise them by how often they are used for convenience. Consider using clear containers for bulk items to minimise clutter and maximise visibility. For cabinets, utilise organisers like drawer dividers or shelf risers to really maximise the space and keep utensils, pots and pans organised. Group similar items together such as all your baking tools in one area and all your cookware in another so that everything has a place.

Do not let your kitchen under-sink or storage closets go unnoticed. These are the most neglected areas but can become practical storage spaces with the simple use of baskets or containers. Cleaning the surfaces in the kitchen will also become so much easier because you will no longer have to move mounds of things in order to clean. A de-cluttered and organised kitchen looks better, functions better and can really set the stage for a pleasant fresh beginning of the year.

Deep Cleaning 3: Making Sure To Deep Clean The Sink

Deep Cleaning, Kitchen Space, Home, Year 2025

Deep cleaning of the kitchen sink is among the crucial steps in setting up for the new year. First, clean it of dishes, debris or any food residue that might be lingering inside. With the sink finally free of whatever contents might have been there, clean the basin itself. Start this by using a mild dish detergent and warm water to scrub down the whole sink area including the sides and corners. Watch out for any build-up around the drain or faucet area.

Sprinkle baking soda over the surface of the sink if some of the stains or grime are a bit stubborn — gently scrub using a damp sponge. Baking soda is a natural abrasive that helps remove stubborn spots without damaging the material of the sink. For the stubborn water spots on your stainless steel sink, a combination of vinegar and water could remove the spots and bring back its shine.

Next, direct your attention to the faucet and handles as these are many times prime areas for soap scum, hard water spots and fingerprints. The faucet should be cleaned off with a solution of equal parts vinegar and water on a cloth or sponge by simply wiping down the faucet, handles and spout. For any mineral deposits that may exist around the faucet, soak a cloth in vinegar and wrap it around the afflicted areas for 10 to 15 minutes prior to just simply wiping clean.

And then there is the drain — pour some baking soda down the drain, add white vinegar and let the fizzing action go on for a few minutes. Afterwards, rinse it well with hot water. This will help in dissipating odours and clearing minor blockages. Finally, clean the outside of the sink and the countertop around it so that everything will be clean. A deep clean of the sink adds an edge of newness to your kitchen and also keeps it hygienically fit as you welcome the new year.

Deep Cleaning 4: Proper Countertop And Backsplash Cleaning

Attention to countertops and backsplashes is very important in giving the kitchen a fresh and organised look during a deep clean before 2025. To start doing so, you first have to clear the things off your countertop, as that way you can reach almost every corner.

In the case of countertops, cleaning is different for each material. To clean granite, marble or quartz surfaces, you will want to spray a gentle cleaner or use warm water with mild dish soap on them. Avoid using harsh chemicals on the surface. Wipe down with a soft cloth, paying extra attention to edges and corners which accumulate crumbs and grime easily. For any stains, a paste made from baking soda and water works very well in removing stains without scratching the surface. After cleaning, dry and buff to give the countertop some lustre.

For backslashes, the method of cleaning really depends on whether it is made of tile, glass or stone. For tile backslashes, use a non-abrasive cleaner or even vinegar and water to remove grease and food splatters. A toothbrush will be able to get at those grout lines, which are very prone to accumulating dirt and discolouration. Glass backslashes should be cleaned with a glass cleaner, without leaving any streaks on the surface. For stone or ceramic backsplashes, mild soap and water will suffice but avoid soaking grout which can easily be weakened over time.

Dry both the counters and backsplash afterward to prevent water spots and mould growth. Cleaning high-touch areas well will upgrade the general cleanliness in your kitchen — setting a clean and organised tone for the coming year.
